Greek footballer Giorgos Katidis says he had no idea he was giving a Nazi salute
GREEK footballer Giorgos Katidis, who plays forĀ AEK Athens, says he never gave a Nazi salute during his side’s 2-1 Greek Super League victory over Veria.
The Greek football federation disagreed. They called it an insult to “all the victims of Nazi bestiality”.
But Katidis says he’s innocent. He tweets:
“I am not a fascist and would not have done it if I had known what it meant.”
AEK’s German coach Ewald Lienen adds:
“He is a young kid who does not have any political ideas. He most likely saw such a salute on the internet or somewhere else and did it without knowing what it means.”
Had he watched another video, he could just as easily have pretended to have been a teapot short and stout, done the YMCA dance or invaded Poland. It could happen to anyone…
Sill. The lad can always become the next manager of Swindon Town.
