Connected Jason Collins has a big future in the macho world of politics
JASON Collins is gay. He’s played in the NBA for 12 years. Says the Washington Wizards center:
“I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport.”
Good. Because you’re not. There was Andrew Goldstein, goalkeeper for Major League Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards.
And what about the women? Because – yep – women plays sports and can be gay, too.
Megan Rapinoe plays for the US national soccer team.
Lisa Raymond has won six Doubles Grand Slams and 5 Mixed Doubles Grand Slam titles:
Seimone Augustus is a WNBA Champion.
Billie Jean King is the former World No. 1 professional tennis player who won 39 Grand Slam titles and represented the United States in the Federation Cup and the Wightman Cup.
But good for Collins. Martina Navratilova tweeted:
“Well done Jason Collins- you are a brave man. And a big man at that:) 1981 was the year for me- 2013 is the year for you:),”
And Collins is a man with strong political connections. Bill Clinton told us:
“I have known Jason Collins since he was Chelsea’s classmate and friend at Stanford.”
Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) was Collins’s roommate at Stanford:
“For as long as I’ve known Jason Collins he has been defined by three things: his passion for the sport he loves, his unwavering integrity, and the biggest heart you will ever find. Without question or hesitation, he gives everything he’s got to those of us lucky enough to be in his life. I’m proud to stand with him today and proud to call him a friend.”
Collins has a big career – in politics. That’s where men rule. America will get a gay President before it gets a female one…
