TRANSFER Balls: Is Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas on his way to Manchester United, Arsenal or…well, anyone else? Let’s see what the media experts are saying:
On July 19, the Daily Mirror told its readers:
David Moyes is hopeful of a breakthrough in Manchester United’s bid for Cesc Fabregas within the next 48 hours.
United have bid £26million for the Barcelona midfielder, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward having flown back from the club’s pre-season tour to accelerate the deal.
On July 20, the Daily Mail added:
Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: ‘Barca will not entertain any offers for Cesc. He is non-transferable.’
If he can’t be transfer what do we make of this:
Fabregas’ Barcelona contract runs to 2016 and includes a £25m buy-back clause for his former club Arsenal.
So, the Mail then reports that United have upped the offer to £30m. The Star adds:
Moyes ups Cesc Fabregas bid to £35m
What about Arsenal, then? The Star says:
Arsenal step back to allow Manchester United to swoop for Cesc Fabregas. ARSENAL will NOT go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signature of former skipper Cesc Fabregas.
Or as the Mirror puts it:
Cesc Fabregas has told friends he will only return to the Premier League with Arsenal, even after Manchester United have bid for him, the Daily Mirror reported.
In the Sun, Harry Redknapp muses:
It’s weird how so many players seem to leave that club — Fabregas, van Persie, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri.
I don’t know why but there must be some reason that makes them want to leave Arsenal.
They didn’t seem to leave, Harry. They left. Or, rather, they were sold for lots of cash and better wages. Money, Harry. Thought you’d understand it’s power. Unless its just plain weird.
