Brent Is A Fracking Free Zone But Cattle Ranchers Eye Barnet
THE London borough of Brent is now a fracking-free zone.
A council spokesman said: “This is where it gets a bit hazy. Theoretically, Brent Friends of the Earth should let us know…It probably would not happen in Brent because it’s quite a built-up part of northwest London, although there are a lot of parks.”
This is good news for Brent Friends of the Earth, which had used placards and shouting to picket the council’s office. Their spokesperson adds: “I’m trying to remember the source. But I think Edgware was one of the areas being considered, along with Croydon.”
Croydon is not in Brent. Edgware is in the London borough of Barnet. But other than that, she is factually spot on. This is a victory for FotE. But the war goes on.
Muhammed Butt, the leader of Brent council, declares: “While there may be advantages to fracking in some parts of the country, it would be dangerous and reckless for companies to start drilling in Brent. I will do everything legally within my power to address the concerns of residents and keep Brent a frack-free zone.”
Anorak applauds the move and calls upon the burgers of Brent to also ban cattle ranching, gold prospecting and testing atomic bombs on the Welsh Harp Reservoir and the adjacent Neasden Recreation Ground. It is, however, too late to prevent chemical weapons testing in Kilburn (see Mr Funny’s Dixie Fried Chicken).
