Sacha Baron Cohen Kills Elderly Lady During Acceptance Speech
AT this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ (BAFTA) Britannia Awards in Los Angeles, Sacha Baron Cohen was awarded some kind of gong for being brave and, presumably, funny.
However, he ended up killing an old woman who was in a wheelchair. You can see the video below.
Salm aHayek presented Baron Cohen with the Charlie Chaplin Brittania Award For Excellence in Comedy. The elderly woman on-stage was introduced as 89-year-old Grace Collington, the “oldest surviving actor to have worked with Charlie Chaplin in a silent movie.”
Cohen stepped up to collect his award and Collington handed him “Charlie Chaplin’s cane” and the Borat star did an impression of the silent film legend. Then he leaned on the cane, it snapped and he ended up pushing her wheelchair off the stage and she fell face down to the floor, in a massive heap.
However, if you’re the kind of person who skim reads articles, you’ll miss this section which tells you the whole thing was a joke at the expense of the audience.
Baron Cohen told a shocked audience: “Grace Collington is the oldest – sorry, was the oldest… I dedicate my award to her,” as her body was carried out of the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “It’s obviously a tragedy, but on the bright side what a great way to go. She’ll probably make the Oscars In Memoriam section… Anyway, tonight is not about her. It’s about me.”
