The Best Players Who Might Not Be At The 2014 World Cup
AS some of you will know, it is the playoffs for the World Cup tonight and it is all very exciting. However, there’s some huge teams in the playoffs, meaning that we will certainly be denied some amazing players.
Of course, some talented footballers play for countries that aren’t too great at the moment, but it seems a shame that such skill won’t grace the tournament. Just think – George Best never played in a World Cup!
And so, to the players that won’t be in Brazil in 2014, and some that, should the matches go a certain way this evening, will be joining everyone else on the sofa.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
If Sweden lose their play-off match, the World Cup will be denied one of the greatest players… and one of the most unpredictable men… the game has ever seen.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Irritatingly, Zlatan’s Sweden are playing C-Ron’s Portugal, so we know that we can’t have both of these enigmatic rascals in Qatar. Basically, we all lose in this situation.
Luis Suarez
Uruguay are in the play-offs and 5-0 up from the first leg, so we’re probably going to see Suarez in the Qatar. However, strange things happen in football.
Karim Benzema
The French are all at sea currently, potentially denying us all a myriad of fine players. 2-0 from the first leg to Ukraine, it looks like that Gallic swagger will be missing.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Armenia didn’t qualify, unsurprisingly, but the World Cup is a poorer place without Henrikh.
Javier Hernandez
Mexico won their first leg and should go through. However, Mexico have been farcical at times and could easily mess the whole thing up, denying us the chance to see some wonderful players. Extra shout-out to Oribe Peralta.
Marek Hamsik
Slovakia’s Marek Hamsik won’t be in Brazil 2014 which means we’ll all miss his skills and, more importantly, the chance to laugh at his hair.
Robert Lewandowski
The great Polish striker has done wonderful things in the Borussia Dortmund side, but thanks to Poland’s failure in the qualifiers, we won’t be seeing him terrorising the Brazilian 18-yard boxes.
Gareth Bale
Another George Best? That isn’t to imply Bale will be fond of a drink, but rather, could well be one of the best players to never go to a World Cup, just like his fellow countryman, Ryan Giggs. Shame.
Christian Eriksen
Denmark and Spurs have enjoyed the skills of Eriksen, but alas, Brazil 2014 will just have to do without him. We’re all poorer for his absence.
Stevan Jovetic
He did his best for Montenegro, but sadly for us, he’ll be watching the World Cup on TV. Lovely hair though.
Darijo Srna
Croatia have been something of an internation mainstay, but lately, haven’t been able to cut it, thereby denying us the change to see them melt in Brazilian heat. Sadly, Srna is one such man who will miss out.
Franck Ribery
When he’s in the mood, Ribery is one of the most electrifying players in football. However, France aren’t the team the once were (in ability or attitude) which means that our Franck will have to make do with watching all his German pals fly away without him.
