Bisexual Tom Daley Inspires Nation To Go Searching For 120 Gay Footballers
TOM Daley is gay. You might have read the news that Olympic diver Tom Daley is gay on the front pages of the national Press, or heard it on the national news bulletins.
Daley made his announcement because the caring Sun was about to out him as being a hypocrite or in denial, or whatever a 19-year-old can be when he’s growing up.
In September, having been voted Attitude magazine’s most shaggable gay man, Daley was invited to comment:
“I think it’s funny when people say I’m gay… I laugh it off. I’m not. But even if I was, I wouldn’t be ashamed. It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest what people thought.
“After the Olympics, the attention I received from girls was really noticeable although I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. No girl has asked me to sign her breasts – but when I was in Mexico I remember some girls going crazy and jumping on the car I was in, kissing all the windows until they were covered in lipstick…
“I was seeing a synchronised swimmer before the Olympics but she lived in Bristol and I wasn’t driving so we couldn’t meet up. I have a soft spot for American diver Kassidy Cook but she lives in Texas – the long distance would be hard.
“I wish I had time to meet a girl. I thought after the Olympics I would have loads more time but that hasn’t been the case.”
And then with the Sun ready to pounce, he went on YouTube to say:
“Of course I still fancy girls. But right now I’m dating a guy.”
And then he became a – dread phrase – “role model” for all the gays in the world.
Gary Lineker said he hoped Daley had “encouraged” gay footballers to come out.
Pink News announced: “Tom Daley comes out as gay.”
The Indy hailed him as a hero. ‘Tom Gayley’ was an “inspiration”, inspiring us to,well, what? Shave our chests and swim more? Be gay? Fancy girls? Make a YouTube video to clear up being misquoted in the Press?
The Indy seems to think the country is trapped in the 1970s, when gays were ‘poofs’, lesbians wore ‘sensible shoes’ and ‘confirmed bachelors’ made it to Parliament. Being gay is no longer a big deal to the country at large. Tom Daley is no trailblazer or role model. He’s just Tom Daly, a teenager who loves a man.
Tom has been invested with considerable power. No longer a Priapic teen with a YouTube account, he’s a man to whom all gays look up to.
Come on, gays. As you come out, Gary Linker will pat you on the back or tweet your name. There will be lists in national newspapers. Everyone will look at you. What are you waiting for? The front and back pages are yours to command. What’s that you say? You’d rather keep it private and personal. No need to share your shags with the nation.
Matt Slater writes on the BBC website: “Estimates of how many gay people there are in any population are controversial, but 3% is widely considered to be a good guess. The Professional Footballers’ Association has 4,000 members, so, by that estimate, approximately 120 of them would be gay.”
And while we waiting for them, did you know that psychopaths are estimated to make up 1 percent of the population? Forty professional footballers lack the basic neurophysiological “hardwiring” that enables them to care for others. We need more understanding in the psychopathic community. So. C’mon, out yourselves. Be brave.
You see how advanced, tolerant and liberal we are. We count the gays who are not as “brave” as Tom Daley Not like those Russians. Come on gays, every name outed is one in the eye for Putin’s homophobes. Show yourselves. Be brave. Be inspired. We’re waiting. No pressure…
Daley’s love life is not news. It’s not a political tool to bash the Ruskies. It’s one young man expressing a desire to “be honest”. And, no, he never does the word “gay” once in his YouTube address to the nation…
