The Carnival of Vevcani In 40 Hellish Photos
THE carnival procession through the southwestern Macedonia’s village of Vevcani is always held on St. Basil’s day, marking the beginning of the New Year by the Julian calendar. It’s in honour of the Orthodox St. Vasilij Day. Local showcase all the horrors that went before Christianity. They also use the day to mock the Greeks, highlight religious issues and thumb their bleeding gorny noses at current events.
