Top 10 De La Soul Tunes To Celebrate Them Giving Away Their Whole Back Catalogue
YOU may have heard about De La Soul giving their entire back catalogue away for free over at their website – wearedelasoul.com – which is great news for hip hop fans, the rap curious and anyone who like music.
They’re doing it to celebrate next month’s 25th anniversary of their debut cut ‘3 Feet High And Rising’. It is only available for 25 hours, so make sure you’re on it (from 4pm onward).
Speaking to Rolling Stone about their decision, Posdnuos said: “It’s about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it. It’s been too long where our fans haven’t had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them.”

Breakadawn
Classic laid-back De La. Overlooked by a few because, in short, it isn’t on their first album. Huge summer jam.
Eye Know
Taken from the legendary ‘3 Feet High…’, this is another grade-A Daisy Age cut designed for nice weather.
Oooh!
A comeback single of sorts, Oooh! featured the equally cartoonish Redman and after a while out, this record saw De La return to the clubs!
Ring Ring Ring
Sharing a hook with Curiosity Killed the Cat, and later, cribbed by Little Mix and Missy Elliot, this is De La Soul at their most infectious.
Say No Go
Another ‘3 Feet’ single. It samples Hall & Oates, which is worth your entrance fee alone.
Stakes Is High
Conscious and kinda judgemental of the rest of hip hop (which is usually a drag), this sees De La Soul in unusually prickly mode. The beat though, is relentless.
Ego Trippin’ (Pt 2)
Huge beat with a video and lyrics that mocks some of their peers. Sly and filled with more hip hop references and hooks than you can shake an Akai at!
Rock Co Kane Flow
The mighty MF Doom lends his weight to this gigantic apocalyptic De La number.
Held Down
Cee-Lo makes an appearance on ‘Held Down’ from the ‘AOI: Bionix’ LP. It has a huge, emotional swell that you wouldn’t normally associate with De La.
Verbal Clap
With J Dilla and De La Soul teaming up, it was crate-digging heaven. A true hip-hop dreamteam and, more to the point, De La’s next LP will apparently have a posthumous Dilla beat on it, which is exciting!
