Three Generations Of Schulz Unite To Create A Peanuts Movie As Disappointing As All The Others

SNOOPY is back. The best cartoon do of them all is to star in a new Peanuts movie, coming to a screen near you on November 6, 2015.

That’s the good news?

Do you flinch a little when you learn that it’s produced by Charles Schulz’s son Craig Schulz and the screenplay has been co-written by his son Bryan Schulz?

The original work was so wonderful that any tinkering could hurt fans like me. Craig Schulz tells USA Today: “It’s about a round-headed kid and his dog, and that’s about as far as I’m willing to go.”

Schulz, the creator of "Peanuts", penned the round faced boy Charlie Brown, and his dog Snoopy. E.W. Scripps Co. said Tuesday, April 27, 2010, it will sell the unit that owns the licensing rights to Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the "Peanuts" gang for $175 million to Joe Boxer owner Iconix Brand Group Inc.

But a film… None of them have been a patch on the sublime comic strip.

Sure, we like the teacher’s big wah-wah voice, watching the kids dance and hearing Marcie, the best bit-part character of them all ,telling Peppermint Patty in 1973’s A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving that she should not complain about the “dinner” Charlie Brown made for them because she had invited herself over to eat it, but the strips were so much snappier, pithier, touching and funnier.

The movies were just a  ‘best of’ package.

Look at these two strips. Both are far better than anything in the films.

It might be that the Schulz family tree can pull off a Charlie Brown film because they don’t have much of an act to follow. After all, their famous forbearer never managed it…
