Kurt Cobain Conspiracy Theorist Sues Seattle Police Department

WHEN a pop star dies, some people get a bit more mental in the way they approach the band. Instead of liking the band for what they are and weighing up whether or not to feel sad about the plight of the singer or, indeed, the fact there’ll be no more records from them, they get bug-eyed and start acting like evangelical Apple fanboys.
One man, called Richard Lee, is a Kurt Cobain death conspiracy theorist and he’s suing the Seattle Police Department. He used to have a public access TV show called ‘Kurt Cobain Was Murdered’. It’s no ‘Everybody Loves Ray’.
You see, with Lee believing that Cobain was killed, he’s got everything all worked out. So much so, that he’s opened up a lawsuit against the police after they recently discovered and released previously undeveloped photographs which were taken at the scene of Cobain’s suicide back in ’94.
Lee, naturally, is representing himself in the case and he reckons that the pictures should have been released ages ago and that he has “broad issues” surrounding the police’s disclosure of the photos.
Even though a recent re-investigation into the death of the Nirvana frontman didn’t discover anything new, Lee is still going after them. Washington state law says that failure to disclose records can result in a fine of $5-100 a day for each document.
The photos themselves, if you haven’t seen them, show a box with some smack equipment in it, another one of the box closed, and there’s some money, a woolly hat and an open wallet. A police spokesperson said these new photos were “underwhelming”. She’s not wrong.
And seeing as four rolls of previously undeveloped film contained photographs taken at the scene of Cobain’s suicide, there will be at least one thing to answer: how much will it cost American taxpayers if the police need to pay a fine for a bunch of undeveloped photos that shed no further light on a case?
