Transfer Balls: Frank Lampard Leaves Chelsea But Joins Manchester City Not New York City
TRANSFER Balls: What news of Chelsea legends Frank Lampard?
On May 31, The Daily Mirror told its readers that Lampard had joined the New York City FC:
Richard Beech reported the facts:
At 7:30pm this evening we exclusively reported that Frank Lampard has signed for New York City and had taken a pay cut in order to do so.
The story was broken by the Mirror’s Darren Lewis:
Frank Lampard has agreed a free transfer to New York City – and Atletico Madrid marksman David Villa is set to join him, MirrorFootball can EXCLUSIVELY reveal
Only, er, he hasn’t.
Indeed on June 2, the Mirror was taking a softer line:
The “prospective” club?
On June 3, the Sun’s Andrew Dillon reports:
FRANK LAMPARD is the world’s most wanted player with 16 clubs chasing him. The England midfielder, 35, has confirmed he will leave Chelsea but will not decide who to join until after the World Cup.
So. The Mirror’s “exclusives” are utter balls. Lampard has not agreed to play for New York City FC. And, indeed, the Mirror says elsewhere that he may play for…Manchester City.
Such are the facts.
