Transfer Balls: Ander Hererra Signs For Manchester United (Again)

by | 24th, June 2014

TRANSFER Balls: A look at Ander Hererra in the trusty news media:

Today the Mail tuned into Spanish radio and yelled in a story posted online at 9:26am:

Manchester United will sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera for £28m TODAY

At 1:57, the Mirror had news:

Manchester United expect to complete the signing of Ander Herrera within 48 hours.

The Mirror was hedging its bets.

By 14:32, the Mail had an update:

Ander Hererra poised to complete move to Old Trafford

But when? The Mail was no longer saying.

The Express said the deal had been done. The money had been paid:

MANCHESTER UNITED have paid a £28m buy-out clause to sign Athletic Bilbao’s midfield maestro Ander Herrera.

The Indy found sources to say it’s been done:

Marca claims Herrera is already in England and has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford worth around £2.4m-per-year, while Radio Bilbao and El Larguero say the deal will be announced today.

Yep. That was the Mail’s scoop.

So. Is it a done deal or not? And mind that in September 2013, the Mail reported:

United’s bid for Herrera collapses after IMPOSTERS reportedly arrive in Spain to negotiate a deal…

Manchester United’s £30.5million bid to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera collapsed amid reports from Spain that hoaxers, claiming to act on behalf of the English champions, had turned up to supposedly represent the club. Three people saying they were United officials had arrived at the Spanish league’s offices in Madrid to pay the buyout clause in full but it was claimed that these men were, in fact, hoaxers.

But he signed. We know that because the trusty Metro told us:

Or as the player said:

“At no moment did either I or my agent reach an agreement with United.”

He’s not signed yet.
