Transfer Balls: Samuel Eto’o Heads To Liverpool Via Arsenal, Everton, Ajax, Inter Milan And Sunderland
TRANSFER Balls: Is Samuel Eto’o heading to Liverpool? What about Arsenal, Everton, Ajax, Inter Milan or Sunderland?
The Sun says he might be.
The Sun’s story is an “exclusive” – that you can also read in the Daily Star:
The Star says “Liverpool have yet to make a formal approach for Eto’o”.
The Sun says Ajax fancy Eto’o but can only afford £30,000 a week in wages.
Just yesterday on August 11, the Express told readers:
Ajax,… have held talks with Eto’o. And sporting director Marc Overmars has revealed a deal is on the horizon. Samuel seemed very hungry to play for Ajax… “Samuel seemed very hungry to play for Ajax,” Overmars told Dutch publication Voetbal International. “He is fit and has a great drive to succeed once again.”
The Guardian says:
Ajax coach close to agreeing free transfer
But will Liverpool get the player they’ve not spoken to? Or will some other Premier League team sign him? The aim of the media in Transfer Season is to link any player with any number of English clubs. So. Sky noted on August 10:
West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have explored the possibility of keeping the Cameroon international in England.
And today the Shields Gazette says Sunderland are in for the player.
On June 3, the Mirror said Everton and Arsenal wanted the Cameroon star:
On June 10, the Express told its readers Eto’o was wanted by Arsenal but was waiting for Roma to call:
And, in any case, the Arsenal story was old news, having been reported by the Star back in May:
So much for the newspapers. What of the internet? Well, the ever reliable (to be full of nonsense) Goal.com notes:
Samuel Eto’o is dreaming of a sensational return to former club Inter and has put a potential move to Ajax on hold as he holds out for a second spell at San Siro. The Cameroonian is a free agent after his contract with Chelsea expired this summer and spent the weekend in talks with Ajax over a possible move to the Amsterdam Arena. But Eto’o’s preferred destination is Inter…
Such are the facts…
