Football Clubs Use Craft And Graft To Announce New Players On Twitter

by | 2nd, September 2014

FOOTBALL’S summer transfer season is over. The Transfer Balls have been digested. And football fans get to see what their team got on DEADLINE DAY. We’ll round-up with the little sticker-style photos clubs use to release new player news on twitter.

The tweets can be broadly placed in two camps: craft or graft.

But we’ll start with Jonathan Biabiany’s move from Parma to AC Milan. It fell through. Anyone like to tell him?

Some clubs like to show their artistic side. Arsenal announced the signing of Manchester Untied’s Danny Welbeck in poster style. All very slick. All very big brand and easy on the eye. Heavy on style. Could disintegrate in a strong breeze.

Real Madrid used collage techniques to welcome Hernandez, also from Manchester United. Unlike Arsenal, Real Madrid were happy to show their new striker playing in United colours.

This was lovely from Ateltico Madrid, who salute the signing of Alessio Cerci with a tribute to the player’s country and a zippy hashtag.

As for Manchester United, well, they just went for the tradional shot of a beaming footballer stood before an advert for insurance and holding up an advert for Chevrolet cars. Or has Radamel Falcao signed for Switzerland?

Southampton went with a happy Toby Alderweireld holding a football scarf.

This is what you get when you let a former window dresser loose on your Twitter account. Valencia welcome Negredo from Manchester City. You should see the matching trousers.

Marseilles confirmed Morgan Amalfitano has joined West Ham United by declaring him dead.

And now for the shirts. QPR went shopping at Spurs and found Sandro. He’s got a tight hold if that shirt, which might bode badly for his ability to tackle in the box. (Or is he trying to take it off?) QPR underline the player’s agression with the message:

Welcome to the #QPR family

Which family member Sandro is, we’re unclear on. But the uncle who went to prison is a fair bet.

Ryan Tunnicliffe has joined Blackburn Rovers FC. This is the ideal chance for a man in a shiny suit, who appears to be the player’s agent, to blow his own horn:

James Grant player @RyanTunnicliffe signs for #Brfc on a season long loan from #Ffc

James McArthur has signed a three year contract with Crystal Palace after joining from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee. He holds his new shirt up and shows how much he loves the club by wearing a Palace top.

Benjamin Stambouli, who leaves Montpellierfor Spurs, does the al fresco shirt lift.

Sunderland new recruit Ricky Alvarez puts on the shirt and gets a scraf from the club shop. He then stands before a board of postcard-sized adverts. Most likely he’s wearing the club shorts, socks, boots and knickers.

Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of George Boyd fromHull City. Boyd wears the club’s home kit and models the away kit. He also holds up his name to remind jubilant Burnley fans who he is. Watch: model’s own (Argos).

Also home and away kits for Hull City’s Mohamed Diamé from West Ham United. Watch and rings: model’s own.

Oh, and Zenit signed Bart Simpson.
