Swansea City’s Jonjo Shelvey Becomes A Young Letter Writer’s Hero
HARRY Jacobs, 8, wanted Swansea City’s Jonjo Shelvey to visit his North London school. His mum Nic wrote a letter to the player. Harry wanted to meet the former Liveprool and Charlton midfielder because, like him, he has Alopecia Totallis. Both lost their hair when young.
Mum wrote:
Harry has developed Alopecia really rapidly. He is a mad footy fan and has got some comfort from the fact that you are a Premiership footballer who he can look up to and see that he can still achieve incredible things.
I would really appreciate if you could write back to him. He is going through a really tough time at the moment and it would be a real boost for him to have a response from you.
Shelvey did the best thing. He paid for Harry and his family to watch Swansea’s Premier League match against Southampton. He paid for their hotel. He arranged for Harry to be the mascot.
For all the grandstanding about football clubs helping the community and PR balls about players being role models, this was just a good bloke doing something that really brightened a child’s life.
