Harry Redknapp Forgets His Own Record As He Bashes Manchester City And Modern Racists

HARRY Redknapp is always good for a space filler. The Daily Mail has “The best bits from our exclusive interview with Harry Redknapp as his new book of glorious football memories hits the shelves”.

He speaks about Manchester City:

‘Pellegrini won the title, but he won the title because he has got good players and spends good money. How much coaching does Vincent Kompany need?’

Dunno. More or less than the QPR side Harry took down then up again to the Premier League. The QPR with the Championships’ biggest wage bill who gained promotion with a play-off goal.

And what of racism?

He uses Bert Trautmann as an example. ‘Imagine him playing now. A German, who fought for the Nazis, in goal in this league. People would spit on him, abuse him, terrorise him. There is so much hatred now.’

Really, Harry? When Trautmann died, The Indy wrote:

Others joined what became an hysterical campaign, with Trautmann subjected to a flood of hate mail and more reasoned, if equally heated, letters appearing in the press. Some ex-servicemen threatened to boycott City if the new ’keeper remained, season tickets were returned and there was predictable abuse at away grounds.

Trautmann’s dignified reaction spoke volumes for his strength of character, never more so than on his first visit to bomb-ravaged London. That day at Fulham he was confronted by the most malicious jibes to date, but he refused to be intimidated. As “Heil Hitler” chants resounded around a seething Craven Cottage…

So much for the good ol’ days…
