Ed Miliband V The Sun: mercilessly monstering and mocking Red Ed
Once upon a time, Labour Party leader Ed Miliband liked the Sun. It was his newspaper of choice.
Ed Miliband was in ‘Sun Country’. And he liked it:
He read it wherever he went.
And then Ed Miliband realised that the Sun was not exactly on his side. He could try and try but the Sun wasn’t going to be won over. Indeed, the Sun started to mock him.
He became a Where’s Wally character.
Miliband was a cheese-eating surrender monkey.
Miliband was Dumb – althogh maybe he was Dumber.
Miliband was every bit as out-of-touch as former Labour leader Michael Foot.
And Neil Kinnock.
In the Sun, Ed Miliband is mercilessly lampooned.
As Roy Greenslade notes:
There was a grain of truth in each case, but the attention paid to the various misrepresentations of their characters was disproportionate.
Like it or not, the Sun does it very well.
