Transfer Balls: Daily Star’s Vargas to Arsenal story tricks Gunners fans
Transfer balls: a look at utter drivel passed off as scoops in the mainstream media. And the Daily Star has a corker.
The headline trills:
Napoli confirm Arsenal target Eduardo Vargas is considering transfer to the Emirates
Arsenal play at the Emirates stadium.
Marc Williams says Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has “pleaded with Arsenal bosses to bring his international team-mate to north London.”
Let us be in no doubt, then, that Vargas is linked with a move to Arsenal.
But the story ends by telling readers that everything that’s gone before is utter balls.
“We deal with many offers for Eduardo Vargas,” [Napoli’s sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli told Chile media outlet El Mercurio. “The UAE offer is very good for the club, but we’re also handling an offer from Spain. I cannot say the club, but they want to buy the player.”
Mentions of Arsenal: nil. It turns out that Williams meant the Emirates in the Middle East not the Gunners’ stadium.
D’oh.
