Transfer Balls: Sergi Samper becomes Arsenal and Liverpool superstar
Arsenal have tabled a £8.5m offer for Barcelona’s Sergi Samper. Well, so says the Sun:
Samper, 20, is currently behind Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano and Sergi Roberto in the Nou Camp pecking order.
But the Metro says Sergi Roberto is close to joining Everton move”. If true (and yep, this is the Metro) Samper is either third or fourth choice pick for his slot in Barcelona’s central midfield.
But he’s on his way to Arsenal, right?
Wenger could try to trigger his £8.5m get-out clause.
Could. Or could not. The Sun is suddenly light on facts.
The Daily Mail adds:
Samper’s path at Barca is blocked by Sergi Busquets whose place in the centre of midfield is unlikely to be up for grabs anytime soon.
The Sun’s scoop is linked to no source. But a story in Spain’s Mundo Deportivo seems to be the oldest linking Samper to Arsenal. It contains no quotes from Arsenal or Barcelona.
And before any news of Samper to Arsenal we read that the player was on his way to Liverpool.
As the Liverpool Echo reported:
Samper, who is rated as one of Barca’s most exciting young talents, has been unable to force himself into the first-team squad this season…Liverpool are in pole position to get their man.
Arsenal are also keen on the cultured central midfielder, but Samper is said to be about to accept Liverpool’s offer.
Or not.
