Sun says ‘fantastic’ Call of Duty drove Adam Lanza to kill
COME “inside the dark, lonely world of maniac Adam Lanza”.
He’s the killer everyone knew.
Lanza is the killer who “lived in [a] windowless lair playing violent video games”.
Lair? Lanza had no criminal record. He had never shot anyone before he murdered so many at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Surrounded by posters of weapons, he plotted massacre
Did he? Was it a plot? Or was it more spontaneous? The guns were his mothers. All were legal.
Peter Samson has more:
SCHOOL massacre maniac Adam Lanza fuelled his violent fantasies while hidden away in a windowless bunker plastered with posters of guns and tanks.
Young man has posted of tanks and guns. And was it a bunker or a basement?
bunker: a protective embankment or dugout; especially : a fortified chamber mostly below ground often built of reinforced concrete and provided with embrasures
basement: the part of a building that is wholly or partly below ground level

The Sandy Hook massacre: Obama makes martyrs of the dead as media fetishises grief and fear
THE Sandy Hook massacre features on the cover of the UK press.
In March 2012, 16 Afghan civilians were killed by U.S. Army Soldier Robert Bales, allegedly.
Can you name them? Did President Obama weep on the TV? Was it front-page news in the UK?
The Sun leads with news of the massacre in Sandy Hook. But how can it justify such intense coverage? The US is accessible. We share the same language. America invented rolling news and burnished news anchors and reporters into personalities, dispatched to deliver not the facts but news the audience will enjoy. Last week the news was obsessed with the death of Jacintha Saldanha, the “Royal nurse” who had committed suicide. This week we’re invited to gawp at terrible events in small town in Connecticut.

Adam Lanza: the quiet, well-behaved, shy, noisy, evil boy everyone knew (photos)
WHAT do we know of Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old who killed himself, his mother, Nancy Jena Lanza, and 27 others at Sandy Hook Elementary School Newtown, Conn.? Not much. Still, the experts in Big Media are guessing. Some of them might be the same experts who were analysing Ryan Lanza’s tweets when Adam’s older bother, for it is he, was protesting his innocence and being very much alive.

How carrots won World War Two
CARROTS played their part in World War Two. Carrots would win the war. And, as luck had it, there were lots and lots and lots of them. Too many. The Ministry of Food had an idea: get shot of the surplus of carrots by marketing them as part of the war effort.
“This is a food war. Every extra row of vegetables in allotments saves shipping… the battle on the kitchen front cannot be won without help from the kitchen garden.
Isn’t an hour in the garden better than an hour in the queue?” – Lord Woolton, Minister of Food, 1941.
Carrots enable you to see in the dark – and best spot the Germans:

Caroline Wozniacki is a racist? Is blacking up always wrong?
WAS it racist? Was Caroline Wozniacki’s impersonation of Serena Williams racist? We’d say it wasn’t. Williams has made fun of her own body shape. She brought up the size of her backside, so it’s fair game. Right? It’s all about intent and tone. In the post-Macpherson Report UK, of course, you can be unintentionally racist. If you think its racist, then it is. You can be an unwitting racist. He told us: “…any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or by any other person.”
So. Are these people racist (via)?

Andy Kershaw spots Santa Savile doing the Radio 1 Christmas Party
GIVEN the need to stuff festive stockings or find something to get through the hideous day, I cannot recommend highly enough Andy Kershaw’s bio No Off Switch. To buy click here.
Ch 32, A Tour of the Cages, adds context to the photo – a Christmas lunch in 1985, held in September. He writes:
“My Radio 1 colleagues could be categorised into three species: there were those who, by the measures of most people, would be considered unfit to be released into the community, never mind set loose on national radio; others had absolutely no personality whatsoever, and even less interest in music, rendering their presence in the broadcasting game, and on a music radio station at that, unfathomable; and just a handful were quite normal, engaging individuals. How the latter bunch ever got over the threshold is, in the light of evident recruitment priorities, perhaps the biggest mystery.”

Bad Ads: Sexual violence and Advertising don’t mix
BAD Ads – Sexual violence and Advertising don’t mix.
Sir Richard Branson described the recently withdrawn Virgin Mobile USA ad – which made a joke of rape – as “ill-judged” and “a dreadful mistake”.
“Although I don’t own the company, it carries our brand,” he said. “I will speak to the team there, make my thoughts clear and see what can be done about it.”

The story of the Klu Klux Klan in pictures: racism, civil rights and murder
THE Klu Klux Klan was once powerful. The Far Right, anti-immigration, anti-Catholic, anti-black, anti-Jew, anti-anything not white and Protestant and lately pro-Nazi group has been a fixture of the US political lanscape ever since it was founded in 1865.
This is a history of its members and those who opposed its racism in photos. The captions are of their time:

Washington no bust: how have you hid your illegal marijuana smoking?
YAYYY! It is now legal to smoke (eat and drink ) marijuana in Washington State. It’s not legal to buy it:
Today, for the first time in 89 years (Washington lawmakers initially outlawed cannabis in 1923, 14 years ahead of the enactment of federal prohibition.), an adult may possess up to one ounce cannabis (and/or up to 16 ounces of marijuana-infused product in solid form, and 72 ounces of marijuana-infused product in liquid form) for their own personal use in private — and they may do without being in violation of state law.

When John Lydon appeared on Judge Judy
BEFORE eating kangaroo anus on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, chewing off politicos on Question Time and smacking his cops at butter, John Lyndon appeared on Judge Judy. It was October 1997 when Lydon appeared before the TV Beak known in her lounge as Judy Sheindlin. Robert Williams was suing the former Sex Pistol and Public Image Ltd frontman for breach of contract and assault and battery.
Virgin Records produced a press release in defence of their act:
Williams filed criminal battery charges against Lydon. The charges were immediately dismissed when police investigators determined that Williams’ case was completely unfounded. A subsequent civil suit was filed by Williams in small claims court claiming damages of $5,000 in lost wages and “civil battery.”
Upon learning of the ongoing dispute between Lydon and Williams, the staff of “Judge Judy” recently approached Lydon’s representatives and offered to adjudicate. When Gardner called Lydon to inform him of Judge Judy’s offer, Lydon accepted immediately, exclaiming, “I love this country!”

Famously depressed: Helen Flanagan explains her pride in not eating a turkey’s anus
HELEN Flanagan says, “I WANTED TO KILL MYSELF” on the Sun’s front page. Flanagan is the former Coronation Street actress with the chest of a sex siren and the eyes that indicate inner workings amazed by toast. Dressed in a bikini and turning her arm to best display a Marilyn Monroe tattoo on her wrist, “the I’m A Celebrity star was pushed to the point of no return by a secret depression she believes she has now overcome”.
For anyone vapid celebrity wishing to carve out a career in reality TV and tabloids surviving depression is a must. The star’s back catalogues should also include: bullying (victim is better but perpetrator can be ok so long as she soon becomes a victim), insecurity (“I hated my breasts when I was 8” etc.), a sex tape, a footballer, the ability to talk about being bi-polar as if everyone knows what you’re talking about and a cancer scare.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s love story told in magazine covers
ANGELINA Jolie, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (aka Poor Jen) are pillars of the tabloid magazines. The Brangelina industry is huge. The Jen-Brad-Angelina love triangle is a prism of untruth, half-truths and gossip. The saga of betrayal, love, sex romance, marriage, divorce, separation, reunion and rowing moves on with each deadline in the National Enquirer, In Touch and Star magazines. How much do we believe? What are the stories’ sources? Jolie can only adopt so many children; Pitt can only wear so many hats; Aniston can only toss her hair so much. But when the story has limits, the wily editor looks to cover emotions: Jen shocked; Jen hurt; Brad confused; Angelina furious and so on.
