Government Issues Banned Jargon List

THE Local Government Association has drawn up a list of phrases that staff should avoid to “communicate effectively”.

Says LGA chairman Margaret Eaton:

“The public sector must not hide behind impenetrable jargon and phrases.”

The LGA’s list includes suggested translations of some terms, such as “measuring” for the civil servant’s favourite “benchmarking”, “idea” for “seedbed”, “delay” for “slippage” and “buy” for “procure”.

Gordon Brown Praises Iran’s Work On Climate Change

GREAT news that Iran will use its nuclear power to combat climate change, says Gordon Brown.

Iran will be looking to change the climate over Israel, Lebanon and Iraq. On the BBC:

Gordon Brown will challenge Iran to join a new international effort to combat climate change by expanding peaceful nuclear energy. But Iran must also agree to stringent UN controls to ensure it does not develop nuclear weapons, or it will face tougher sanctions. EU Bans Use Of Mrs And Miss

THE EU wants to ban the use of Miss ad Mrs in case they offend, in accordance with the Gender-Neutral Language docuMENt:

The European Parliament has banned the terms ‘Miss’ and ‘Mrs’ in case they offend female MEPs. The politically correct rules also mean a ban on Continental titles, such as Madame and Mademoiselle, Frau and Fraulein and Senora and Senorita.

Guidance issued in a new ‘Gender-Neutral Language’ pamphlet instead orders politicians to address female members by their full name only.

UN Greens Debate Final Chapter Of Battlestar Galactica

THE UN is to debate the final chapter of the TV show Battlestar Galactica.

“Through its newly established Creative Community Outreach Initiative, the United Nations Department of Public Information and the SCI FI Channel will co-host a panel discussion in connection with the final episode of the Battlestar Galactica television series at 7 p.m., tomorrow, 17 March in the Economic and Social Council Chamber. Hillary Clinton Restarts Cold War

HILLARY Clinton gives the Russians the big read button – that used to sit on Bill’s desk ready to be pressed every third Wednesay in June –  and tells them to restart the big clock at T-minus 1962. I Hate The Media writes:

America voted for hope and change. We just hope they like the change they’re getting.

According to CNN, the Russian government just announced that they may base long-range bombers in Cuba for the first time since the 1962 Cuban Missle Crisis.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton presented her Russian counterpart with a special “Restart” button this week, he apparently took it as a sign his government could restart the Cold War.

YOU can’t smoke in the UK indoors. Your can’t smoke outdoors, either, at football grounds and such like.

THE WHIP is contacted by a source who works for the company involved in the G20 Summit being held at Excel in London’s Canning Town next month. “Although smoking is banned within work places in the UK and has been a vigorously enforced Labour policy, it is being allowed at the G20 summit – indeed, there is a smoking lounge,” he reports.

George Galloway And Ridley Attacked In Egypt By Anti-Hamas Dirty Words

LAUGHING GEORGE Galloway’s peace convoy rolls into Egypt:

A convoy led by the maverick MP George Galloway carrying supplies for Gaza has been attacked in Egypt, apparently injuring several people travelling in his party.

The convoy, carrying aid worth £1 million, was pelted with stones and vandalised with anti-Hamas slogans after it stopped overnight in El-Arish, a small town around 28 miles from the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
