It’s a book that can read and understood by the comments of they who like it:

Such news is surely deserving of not one but two exclamation marks.

GEORGE Bush’s visit to Blighty inconvenienced nearly 40,000 fliers.
President George W. Bush’s recent stopover in London slowed the travel of nearly 40,000 fliers at Heathrow Airport, according to British Airways CEO Willie Walsh. Heathrow airport operator BAA confirmed today that 32 arrivals and 36 departures were canceled as a result of Bush’s trips into and out of Heathrow on June 15 and 16, The Associated Press writes.

Boris Johnson’s Cigar Case Case
BORIS Johnson has Taria Aziz’s cigar case, or he did:
Would there be anyone so petty, so time-wastingly idiotic, as to complain? Alas, I forgot about the Labour Party. Five years after I found this memento, Labour stooges were recently combing my articles for anything discreditable to a Conservative mayoral candidate.
They found the article, and with bulging eyes they went to the Metropolitan Police and demanded that I be prosecuted. I am accused by my political opponents of removing a cultural artefact from Iraq. As it happens, I also have in my possession a letter from the lawyers of Tariq Aziz, informing me that Mr Aziz wishes me to regard the cigar case as a gift.
But never mind. The file has been opened at Scotland Yard; the proceedings have begun. The poor police have no choice but to investigate this ludicrous affair, and in the interim I am told I must hand the cigar case into police custody – or else be led in manacles from City Hall.
Is it the tobacco?

Barack Obama’s Little Queen Of Spades
IN Las Vegas for the WSOP, Barack Obama arrives.
There is no escape. But what’s that in his pocket?
The Obama campaign is in Vegas for a “Change That Works for You” rally.
Change is what Obama is about. He talks about change all the time. He never changes talking about change and may only change when the change has come.
Before Vegas, Obama has been in New Mexico, where he’s asked what lucky charms he carries on him.
“I try to select a number on any given day,” says Obama, who
changes his lucky charms, as he must.
During the course of the campaign, he says he has collected “probably 50, maybe 100″ good luck trinkets, including, we trust, Anorak’s lucky badger’s head.
His spokesman Robert Gibbs then asks Obama if he could borrow the lucky poker chip for the evening’s trip to Vegas. “I might let you take it down,” says Obama.
Ok, with some jokes, a little embellishment and a punchline, it might make good anecdote. But the point is not so much that Obama relies of superstition for victory, but that he would lend anyone his lucky token.

GLOBAL Warming. If you disagree with it you should be put on trial. Not agreeing with the Al Goreans should be a criminal offence:

Alan Sugar Is London’s Michael Bloomberg
Jonathan Isaby wonders about Boris and Sir Alan:
Boris Johnson has only been London mayor for a matter of weeks, yet already there is speculation about who Labour might put up against him in May 2012 (yes, the election will be just a couple of months before the Olympics actually happens).
Ken Livingstone has already indicated a desire to do it, but it is generally thought that Labour will want a new face to challenge Boris Johnson in four years’ time.
And the name to be highlighted in the latest press speculation is none other than Sir Alan Sugar, the multi-millionaire businessman and star of the hit BBC reality show, The Apprentice.
He certainly ticks all the boxes I have always thought a mayoral candidate needs to tick: name recognition; charisma; an existing reputation among voters; and potential to appeal to a wider base than that of the party he would be standing for.
He forgets to mention Bloomberg – the savvy Jewish man with the fortune made from electronic screens. You know, like Sugar…

Marc Wadsworth And James McGrath Make Boris Johnson Look Decisive
JAMES McGrath is London Mayor Boris Johnson’s deputy chief of staff. Or he was until he met with Marc Wadsworth “a confident, British-born Black activist and news media operator with a reasonable track record”.
Or as the self-aggrandising and ubiquitous Tory blogger Iain Dale calls him “someone called Marc Wadsworth”.
Writes Wadsworth:
McGrath was far from politically correct, David-Cameron-new- cuddly-Conservative Party, when I pointed out to him a critical comment of Voice columnist Darcus Howe that the election of “Boris Johnson, a right-wing Conservative, might just trigger off a mass exodus of older Caribbean migrants back to our homelands”.

Supa Mandiwanzira And Banning Al Jazeera In Zimbabwe
AL Jazeera’s English Zimbabwe correspondent Supa Mandiwanzira has been accsued of less then objective reporting. In response:
Al Jazeera has been denied permission to operate in Zimbabwe, a source in the Ministry of Information and Publicity told Metro.
Its Harare bureau will be moved to Johannesburg.
The source said the government was not happy with its plans to fire its correspondent Supa Mandiwanzira who is being accused of not being objective.

Today’s FT has a story that I find shocking in the extreme. The Company working to keep Robert Mugabe in power in Zimbabwe is part of Martin Sorrell’s WPP Group! At first I thought this must be a smear as the implications are so bad for his business. However, WPP have been forced to admit to the FT that it is true, and that the company behind Mugabe’s adverts that have incited the murder of 80 opposition campaigners is indeed part of the Young and Rubicam Group that WPP owns.

Government Pays You In Vegetables To Give Up Smoking
THE Government has not only been watching your every more but it has been also listening to every thing you say.
And now the Government can unveil the new plan that you the people of Britain wanted above lower taxes, cheaper petrol and better transport: smokers in Dundee will be given £115 worth of groceries to give up the evil weed.
In readiness for new legislation that will make not eating five items of fruit and vegetables a week punishable by electric shock therapy and being made to sit though back-to-back episodes of That’s Life outtakes, participants in a 12-week scheme will be given £12.50 a week by NHS Tayside if a carbon monoxide breath test proves they have not been smoking.
And lest the people of Dundee be naughty, the money will be credited onto an electronic card which cannot be used for cigarettes or alcohol.
Just like in prison.
There are 36,000 smokers in Dundee, about half of whom live in poverty, says the BBC, and with any luck one of the last things they enjoy will be taken away from them and replaced by a steamed carrot enabling them to live longer in their impoverished lives…

Did You Know That Barack Obama Is Black?
BARACK Obama tells us that he is not white, but he is black:
Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said on Friday he expects Republicans to highlight the fact that he is black as part of an effort to make voters afraid of him …
Like Mike Huckabee.
“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”
They did. And so did Obama.
It’s almost as if he’s willing the oppostion to talk about his race, his funny middle name and his inexperience. Perhaps that’s all he has?
The only other subject that could jolt Lee out of his slumping stupor on stage was Barack Obama, to which all conversational roads seemed to lead. Discussing his Hurricane Katrina epic When the Levees Broke, Lee referenced the current flooding in the midwest and said, “The infrastructure of this country is crumbling, and money’s going elsewhere.” He paused, then at quadruple the volume: “That’s gonna change, though…gonna be a real Chocolate City!”
As he says: “This ought to help the Obama Campaign solidify the white vote.”

There, though there was a wartime truce between the main parties, the Liberal candidate Percy Harris (now best remembered as Matthew Taylor’s great-grandfather) faced a formidable opponent financed by the press baron Lord Northcliffe.
Thomas Gibson Bowles was the illegitimate son of a cabinet minister, the founder of Vanity Fair and The Lady, and the grandfather of the Mitford sisters. He had sat for King’s Lynn as both a Liberal and a Conservative. He stood in Harborough to protest against the Asquith government’s conduct of the war.
Percy Harris wrote in his memoirs: “The hoardings were covered with Daily Mail posters, ‘Buy Daily Mail and vote for Bowles,’ and a special issue of the Daily Mirror, then in Northcliffe’s hands, was published and delivered free to the voters.”

Mike Huckabee Doesn’t Mention Obama’s Race Or Name
FAILED Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee – he of the Barack Obama Death Cult – wants everyone to stop mentioning Barack Obama’s middle name and his colour.
He says so much on his open letter:
What I am saying is that we need to challenge Obama on the basis that his ideas are the wrong ones—not attacking him personally. If people spend their time repeating a bunch of internet driven drivel about his middle name (he didn’t choose his anymore than I chose mine), or his race (I do sincerely celebrate that our country has moved to a place where a person’s race doesn’t limit him from aspiring to the highest office in our land, but I just believe that due to his proposals and lack of substantive experience, he’s gone far enough—not because of his race, but because of his sincere, but misguided proposals), or his church (there are far more important reasons for us to elect Senator McCain than where Obama went to church).

Martin Luther King Does Barack Obama
MARTIN Luther King Jr. is not Barack Obama.
Just look at the national memorial to the civil rights leader (King) that just won approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.
The first go at a Luther statue was said to be “too confrontational”. King looked angry, and we can’t have a man speaking for an oppressed peoples looking angry.
So King was retouched and came back with a less furrowed brow, a softer mouth and more detailed rendering of the hands.
King retained his folded arms. Ed Jackson Jr., executive architect for the private foundation that is leading the effort, says those critics who says King would never have struck such a pose are wrong.

Amy Winehouse Catches Tony Blair
AMY Winehouse has the “classic sings of TB”.
Who on reading that does not think that Winehouse has taken on the characteristics of Tony Blair?
Of course Tony has never billed himself as TB, for much the same reason that the Beckhams do not have “VD” embroidered into their car headrests.
But the link between Winehouse and Blair is not diminished by reading the Sun’s headline in full: “Coughing up blood, no appetite, weight loss…Amy has the classic sings of TB.”
She’s now in hospital, where she will be for 40 days and 40 nights.
That his name bears the initials of a disease cannot have escaped Tony Blair.

Burnham Breeches: Chakrabarti And David Davis’s Noble Stance
ANDY Burnham, the Culture Secretary considers things David Davis and tells left wing Progress magazine:
To people who get seduced by Tory talk of how liberal they are, I find something very curious in the man who was, and still is I believe, an exponent of capital punishment, having late-night, hand-wringing, heart-melting phone calls with Shami Chakrabarti
Chakrabarti is the director of Liberty, the civil liberties group. The Times’ Ann Treneman writes that “there is a rumour that David Davis resigned after being bewitched by Shami. She denied this, but then she would.”
David Davis responds: “Labour has now resorted to personal smears and lies rather than make its case for 42 days detention without charge and for the other illiberal measures it has taken.”
That sounds like an over-reaction to an over-reaction to a crass comment, but then there is by-election to be fought and Burnham’s office calls it “by-election political knockabout and nothing else”.
Burnham’s office goes on to say:
Nothing more should be read into it and no personal offence was intended to Shami Chakrabarti.
End of. David Davis is not shagging Mrs Chakrabarti, nor is he engaging in phone sex with her, nor is he reading passages aloud from Mill & Boon’s Noble Stance series. Move on. Or not.
A letter is, apparently, sent to Andy Burnham, the Attorney General, and Gordon Brown, by one Shami Chakrabarti:
I am writing in relation to your recent article in the ironically titled “Progress” magazine. In that article you set out to smear my dealings with the former Shadow Home Secretary. I must say that I find this behaviour curious, coming as it does from a Cabinet Minister; let alone someone with a partner and family of his own.
