Britain Is World’s Biggest Arms Exporter
IT’S the ethical foreign policy:
London Britain was the world’s biggest arms seller last year, accounting for a third of global arms exports, the Government’s trade promotion organisation said.
UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) said that arms exporters had added £9.7 billion in new business last year, giving them a larger share of global arms exports than the United States.

Barack Obama Rally Blocks Muslim Women
BARACK Obama is not a Muslim:
Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit on Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.
You can change many things – but you can’t change an unphotogenic face. Maybe they could get their headscarves sponsored and come back?
Maybe they should strike a blow for equality?

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

Demonsing Bobby Jindal
WHO is Bobby Jindal?
Bobby Jindal, the 36-year old governor of Louisiana, is being taken seriously by the national press as a candidate on the shortlist to be John McCain’s Vice President. No one doubts that he’s a political prodigy — his impressive resume includes stints as president of the state university system, a Congressman and now governor.
But one of Jindal’s job titles hasn’t gotten much attention — and it just might prompt a few questions if his Veep candidacy gains steam: Exorcist.

Political Quote Of The Day: Gordon Brown On Liberty
DAVID Davis makes a stand, and Gordon Brown tells us that he’s the real champion of liberty:
… we have given people new rights to protest outside Parliament …
– Gordon Brown on “Liberty and Security”
Says Guy Herbert:
“… omitting to mention that until 2005 there was a general liberty to protest outside Parliament, and giving just a little bit of it back, having fortified the area in the meantime, is not all that impressive. Read the whole thing, if you haven’t been paying attention while a free country changed into something else.”
Over in the Mirror, Gordon Brown’s media mouthpiece Kevin Maguire is using Davis to show how “out of touch with most people” David Cameron is. Of couse, Brown can now see the people by looking out of his window…

David Craig To Stand Against David Davis
DAVID Craig has decided that he will fight David Davis for the Haltemprice and Howden seat.
My message is that the 42 days issue is not important to most people as we are unlikely to be affected by it. However, living on the national average salary as I do, I believe that what is important to taxpayers is how MPs have become overpaid, out of touch and are wasting billions of pounds of our money when the cost of living is spiralling out of control.
Well, many do care about 42 days, and it does affect everyone of us. But it is a free-ish country, and so long as he can afford the money and the time, Mr Craig can stand. By the way, His real name is name is Neil Glass…

George Monibot On Bush And Wealth
GEORGE Monbiot looks into the crystal ball at George Bush:
We shouldn’t be surprised to hear that George Bush dined with a group of historians on Sunday night. The president has spent much of his second term pleading with history. But however hard he lobbies the gatekeepers of memory, he will surely be judged the worst president the United States has ever had.
Even if historians were somehow to forget the illegal war, the mangling of international law, the trashing of the environment and social welfare, the banking crisis, and the transfer of wealth from rich to poor…
Yeah, what a loser…

Bush Never Lied About Iraq
REALLY: “Bush never lied to us about Iraq – The administration simply got bad intelligence. Critics are wrong to assert deception.”
In 2004, the Senate Intelligence Committee unanimously approved a report acknowledging that it “did not find any evidence that administration officials attempted to coerce, influence or pressure analysts to change their judgments.” The following year, the bipartisan Robb-Silberman report similarly found “no indication that the intelligence community distorted the evidence regarding Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.”

Romanians Elect Dead Man For Mayor
“I KNOW he died, but I don’t want change,” a pro-Ivascu villager tells Romanian television.
“The vote goes on as planned… We don’t have any legislation which allows us to halt the electoral process,” says a spokesman for the Electoral Commission.
Neculai Ivascu, 57, ran the village of Voinesti, Romania, for 18 years. He died from liver disease just after voting began – but still won the election by a margin of 23 votes.
Reuters reports that: “A local official said the authorities decided to keep the poll open in case Ivascu’s opponent, Gheorghe Dobrescu, won, avoiding the need for a re-run.”
The country’s Social Democrat Party (PSD), have called for a new vote, so allowing a fair go for one and all.
Mr Ivascu will be made to stand against: Illie Snookercu; Vlad the Impaler, Elena Ceauşescu (Monster Raving Loony Party) and many many more…

Boris Johnson: The Man Who Mistook His Hat For The War On Terror
THIS week London mayor Boris Johnson talks about his hat:
I hitched my rucksack, tucked my right trouser leg into my sock and was about to clamber aboard the King of the Road when I realised there was something terribly wrong with my appearance. I clapped my head. My helmet! I’d forgotten to wear the symbol of my new deference to correct thinking… the chinstrap of social obedience.
Lest readers mistake this for filler and evince that you ne London mayor and a columnist, Johnson ties his hatless head to the war on terror and 42 days detention:

Obama Is Europe’s Man
SAYS Paul: “New York Magazine’s Daily Intel blog warns Europeans that the more they cheer for Barack Obama, the greater the chance he will lose”:
The Americans who would listen to the advice of Western Europe are the ones who listen to the BBC feed on NPR in the morning for their international news and opinion — in other words, the people who are already going to vote for Obama. The people who he is trying to win over at this very moment, as he campaigns in the red states, are the ones who will view a European endorsement as a total minus. Remember when there was a movement to rename French Fries “Freedom Fries” over here? Yeah, it’s those people who will be alienated by your support. Frankly, they think you’re a bunch of Socialist sissies.

To The Vomitorium With Meghan McCain
JOHN McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain is now a Republican – she explains why on her blog:
This morning, I went to the State Capitol Executive Building in Phoenix with Mom and re-registered as a Republican. I did this as a symbol of my commitment to my dad and to represent the faith I have in his ability to be an effective leader for our country and to grow and strengthen the Republican party when he is elected President of the United States. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!
Sweet. Does he still have his own teeth?

Con Coughlin On George Bush’s Great Legacy
BUSH is going and Con Goughlin agrees with her:
He overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan and destroyed the al-Qa’eda terrorist infrastructure responsible for the September 11 attacks. He overthrew Saddam Hussein’s detested regime – which had been a thorn in the West’s side for more than a decade – and he has built an international consensus for dealing with the alarming issue of Iran’s nuclear programme.

What Becomes Of Hillary Clinton’s Celebrity Backers
WHAT happens when Hillary Clinton loses and her celebrity friends realise they have backed the wrong horse?
The New York Daily News reports:
Bill Clinton came to Hollywood for Thursday’s American Film Institute gala to pay tribute to Warren Beatty, but the former President didn’t miss the chance to play peacemaker among warring Democrats.
While Clinton commiserated with Hillary-backers like Jack Nicholson, he also reached out to Obama-backers, like vicious Clinton-basher David Geffen. Said WJC to Beatty: “We all have to get behind Barack now.”
Does Barack Obama need Jack Nicholson in his camp to appeal to, well, who does Nicholson appeal to?
Better if all celebrities who backed the losers had their celebrity status removed and were barred from talking about anything other then their new film, rehab and how they are move fanciable than Mick Hucknall.

John McCain’s Credit Card Statement
ON John McCain’s new Senate Financial Disclosure Form, voters can wodner about his fiscal policy:
The bulk of the McCains’ obligations stemmed from a pair of American Express credit cards that are held in Cindy McCain’s name. According to the disclosure reports, which present information on debts in a range rather than providing a precise figure, Mrs. McCain owed $100,000 to $250,000 on each card.
Says JTaplin: “I know what American Express charges for interest on a Platinum Card. A fiscally responsible household should probably sell some of the million of Anheuser-Busch stock they own and stop paying that 17% ARP on $500,000 worth of Amex charges.”
Indeed…

Sunay Hundal Says Asians Should Vote Tory
SAYS Sunny Hundal:
Saying that… given that New Labour wants to extend anti-terrorism legislation until every brown person in the country is locked up until proven innocent (or once the police can be bothered to let you out), it makes more sense for brown and black people, who will overwhelmingly face the brunt of this police-state legislation, to vote Conservative. At least the Tories have finally found some balls regarding the erosion of our civil liberties.

Chanting A Weak Farewell To George Bush
PRESIDENT George Bush “will bid Britain farewell today and then fly home after a frantic final tour of Europe where he secured vague assurances of support, but little tangible progress, for what remains of his foreign policy,” writes the Times.
Caption the picture.
Bush is pictured meeting with the Queen (FT and Times’ front pages) and Gordon Brown (Telegraph).
But the Guardian features not the star but his opponents. A clue to the paper’s seinsibilities can be sensed in its leader column: “World leaders have legacies. Global disasters have aftermaths.”
The front page headline trills: “What do we want? George Bush. What do we get? A no-show.”
Crowds often turn out in Britain for the farewell tours of famous American names and yesterday was no exception. Some 2,500 had gathered in Parliament Square hours before the big event was due to start, and there plenty of T-shirts and memorabilia on sale. But despite non-stop chants of his name, the star of the show made no appearance in front of the crowds.
The Guardian is the papers that ignores the big American star on the red carpet and looks at the fans. It says Bush is not there, which may means the paper was in the wrong place? It seems surprised that chanting someone’s name fails to conjure them up. Still, no news can still be news:

Ann Coulter On The Great George Bush
ANN Coulter on why George Bush is a great president – 100 PERCENT AL-QAIDA FREE SINCE 2001.
I generally don’t write columns about the manifestly obvious, but, yes, the man responsible for keeping Americans safe from another terrorist attack on American soil for nearly seven years now will go down in history as one of America’s greatest presidents.
It is unquestionable that Bush has made this country safe by keeping Islamic lunatics pinned down fighting our troops in Iraq. In the past few years, our brave troops have killed more than 20,000 al-Qaida and other Islamic militants in Iraq alone. That’s 20,000 terrorists who will never board a plane headed for JFK — or a landmark building, for that matter.
We are, in fact, fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them at, say, the corner of 72nd and Columbus in Manhattan — the mere mention of which never fails to enrage liberals, which is why you should say it as often as possible.

The CNN Moos With John McCain
ASKING a question of John McCain should be easy. This man in the video finds it tricky.
But rather than him being the story, Anorak cannot get pass the commentator, the closed-voiced woman called Jeanne Moos, whose vocal impression of a surprised Fozzy Bear swallowing snot brings us the noos, sorry, news.
Jeanne works for CNN, which features the long-question as news, and makes it longer by boosting it with Moos’s voiceovers.
McCain’s interrogator should consider applying for a job as a nodding head on a 24-hour news channel…

Labour MP Supports Around David Davis
DAVID DAVIS, Tory MP and former shadow home secretary, is making a stand on civil liberties. Gordon Brown, Prime Minister, calls it a stunt:
“At the first test of what their policy is on the big central issue of national security, the Conservative Party are totally divided.”
Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews tells the Observer
‘They can’t muzzle the whole of the party, and it seems to me foolish in the extreme in the present climate to start describing civil liberties as a stunt,’ he told The Observer. ‘I have had emails asking, “Why does it take a Tory to say this”?’
Because a Tory has less to lose?

Barack Obama The Monkey Puppet
IN AMERICAN: “A toy being sold over the internet by a Utah couple is causing an uproar from supporters of democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.”
What is it?
“It’s a sock monkey wearing a suit with a lapel pin for Obama. Supporters of Obama have been filling online forums and blogs with angry words over what they see as the degrading depiction of a black man as a monkey.” So says abc4.com.
It’s so wrong. You can read about how wrong it is to portray politicians and presidents as monkeys here, here, here , here, here, here, and Curious Obama here…

Commons Speaker Michael Martin’s Cleaner Gets MBE
THE Mail reports that Commons Speaker Michael Martin “came under fresh fire last night after his cleaner – who was involved in a row over his wife’s taxi expenses – was given an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Gloria Hawkes, 64, a friend of Mary Martin, was caught up in the controversy earlier this year over a £4,139 taxi bill run up by Mrs Martin.
Mrs Hawkes’s discretion and loyalty were singled out in an official citation accompanying the announcement of her honour for community service yesterday.”
Martin’s a big man. You’d want a medal for cleaning up after him…
