Jon Venables: the sexting tapes
LET’S see how this one pans out: the Sun follows up its news that Jon Venables, one of James Bulger’s killers, once sent a picture of his penis to a woman he’d been flirting with online.
Sexting is pretty much the norm. But when you’re Jon Venables, who killed a very young child when he was a ten-year-old – an act the trial judge called “unparalleled evil” – the thing takes on meaning. So. One day after Ralph Bulger, James Bulger’s father, said the sexting was a sign that Venables was a danger, the Sun quotes the victim’s mother, Denise Fergus.
The mum of James Bulger yesterday demanded that her son’s killer Jon Venables should be prosecuted over X-rated images.

Reflections on Iceberg Slim: the chronicler of male-female relations
I FIRST read Iceberg Slim’s autobiography Pimp when I was a teenager. The title, the women, the vice and the slang made it exotic, but the story was down and dirty. The women were often wild and fierce. By the end of the book, Slim was man ho’d lived and been chewed up by life. To me, this was no glorifying of the skin game.

A dog fight aboard the Samjhauta Express: India and Pakistan trade strays
THE brains trust running the India-Pakistan border are waging war with stray dogs. The exchange programme began when a stray Indian dog “accidentally” took a train ride aboard the Samjhauta Express (aka the Friendship Express”) at Attari station in Amritsar. The beast ended up in Lahore.
The Pakistanis thought it best to load the train with 50 stray dogs for its return tip to India.

WHY don’t the elite and the law makers rehouse sex offenders in the smarter parts of town, near to their homes?
When I read the headline “sex offender park”, I envisaged a park reserved for sex offenders, all their perversions catered for by fetishists and virtual reality.

Oscar Pistorius: Reeva Steenkamp’s gun does the talking
REEVA Steenkamp once fired a gun. She posted an image of her firing a pistol on a shooting range. The Daily Mail says the weapon used by the “pretty blonde” is “almost identical to the the one that killed her”.

WHO torched the scarecrow on the cross in Billericay, Essex? Our guess would be the Scarecrow Klu Klux Klan. Someone could care to ask the “mother” who told the local paper:

The Leveson police are coming to silence their critics
BE afraid. The desperate-to-be-liked police are coming after your freedoms. Scotland Yard wants powers to search newsrooms. This will prove to everyone how much better the police is than what went before. No collusion with phone hacking, see. No need to hack things and get media to do your dirty work when you can just seize everything legally.
They told Leveson that police should have been free to search the News of the World offices during the 2006 phone-hacking inquiry. The Times says “Senior Metropolitan Police officers are known to have been furious that their efforts to seize material from The Guardian, relating to leaks from the current hacking investigation, were thwarted in 2011.”

Get cleaning, ladies and stop turning into porky fatties (smoking and sex work too)
GET cleaning ladies: it’s because you’re porky fatties. And rather than this being the usual misogynist tripe this is actually sound science. There is a real reason for muffin tops and gargantuan bingo wings: it’s that no one is cleaning behind the stove properly any more. Really:
Women, they found, once had been quite physically active around the house, spending, in 1965, an average of 25.7 hours a week cleaning, cooking and doing laundry. Those activities, whatever their social freight, required the expenditure of considerable energy. (The authors did not include child care time in their calculations, since the women’s diary entries related to child care were inconsistent and often overlapped those of other activities.) In general at that time, working women devoted somewhat fewer hours to housework, while those not employed outside the home spent more.
Forty-five years later, in 2010, things had changed dramatically. By then, the time-use diaries showed, women were spending an average of 13.3 hours per week on housework.

Oscar Pistorius is white: black victim Mido Macia gives us a name to remember
DO you think Oscar Pistorius’s trial in South Africa had anything to do with race, the white man against the blacks? It does.
The Pretoria court allowed audio recording of the judgment. TV cameras could be allowed in to film the trial, and certainly the closing arguments. Trials involving government officials are televised in South Africa. This is because in the days of apartheid, justice was not colour blind. In 1969, South Africa abolished jury trials, because of racial prejudice by white jurors. A jury has to give no reasons for its findings. The judge does.

Bruce Reynolds – The Great Train Robber’s life in photos
RIP Bruce Reynolds. It’s not often a thief’s death is announced on the national news. But then history has been kind to the gang whose great caper was masterminded by Reynolds, a known armed burglar. Reynolds was arrested after nearly five years on the run and on January 15, 1969, sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. On August 8, 1963, Reynolds and the gang stole £2,500,000 from the overnight mail express from Euston to Glasgow. They forced the driver to stop at Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, where they unloaded the booty. When arrested in Torquay, Reynolds, 38, told Detective Chief-Superintendent Tommy Butler: “Anyone who thinks crime pays must be mad. It has been driving me silly.” Reynolds was released from prison on 6 June 1978 after serving 10 years. Not all the money was found.

Mother killed son after circumcision reduced size of his testicles
GRIM news in Jakarta, Indonesia, where Retno Purwati, 38, has admitted to killing her eight-year-old son, Vicky Riska. Sr. Comr. Rikwanto tells media:
“It seems like she committed the murder consciously. She filled up a bathtub with water, tied the kid up and drowned him. Afterward, she dressed him. It was all done very neatly, but we still recommend for her to undergo a psychological examination.”

Chief prosecutor arrested for buying sex
TO Stockholm, Sweden, where police have arrested a man paying for sex with a prostitute. It turns out that he’s the chief prosecutor, to whom police reports such crimes.
He says he drank some wine and some beer, before looking for sex online.
“And then I did what I am suspected of… My wife will leave me and my kids think I behaved like a pig. My friends think the same… I have done what I’ve done. I’m standing with my pants down.“

FAREWELL Benedict XVI. Not that he’s going very fara way. He’s staying inside the Vatican, walking the corridors of power dressed in white robes and answering to the title “His Holiness”, a Pope Emeritus:

Federico Lombardi, said Benedict himself had made the decision in consultation with others, settling on “Your Holiness Benedict XVI” and either emeritus pope or emeritus Roman pontiff. Lombardi said he didn’t know why Benedict had decided to drop his other main title: bishop of Rome.
