C’mon Israel! Now only the anti-deutsche support the fighting Jews

IN Germany, the antideutsche are celebrating Israel. The antideutsche are Germans who are not all that keen on Germany. Brian Whelan says they are holding squat parties to cheer on the Israelis. This anti-Germany stuff is bit odd. But once upon time the Left all cheered for the Israelis. Israel was the dream of the Left, a socialist Utopia. But that’s largely gone. The nation became the Jew.

The best life story in 91 words or less

CAN you tell your life’s story in 91 words or less? The Gotham Writers’ Workshop held a contest to see if anyone could. The winner is this:

Cops, cashiers and railroad men: my people sprang from the Bronx. My parents used college like a pole vault, soft-landing in the burbs.

At 23, having horrified my family by salmoning back to that borough, I hung on the roof of a tenement building with Hector and Luis. I wanted a sharper life with guys like them, who dealt Mexican weed and stripped junkers on the Mosholu Parkway service road. They were like brothers until one caught the other with his woman. Out came the knife.

Too sharp. I moved.

How the Colorado marijuana business works

MARIJUANA is now legal on Colorado. How does the market work? Tony Dokoupil explains:

After Eric Holder and the Obama administration suggested that they weren’t going to crack down on medical marijuana, everybody and their brother grabbed a trash bag full of weed out of their backyard and were like, ‘All right, medical marijuana here for sale!’ … Then Colorado was really interesting … because there’s a core of young, educated, politically connected and well-financed guys who said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. We can’t have former black market drug dealers and bikini girls as the face of our industry, because the community’s not going to accept it.

“So they partnered with law enforcement. They partnered with state legislators. They hired incredibly high-level political consultants and lobbyists who have worked nationally. And they are the inside force that led to the creation of Colorado’s regulated medical marijuana industry, which is unlike any in the country and which will be the basis for the legalized, regulated market. And so in response to the craziness that we saw in 2009 … a movement toward controlled, regulated, not-in-your-face, nonconfrontational pot culture has begun.”

Lake Annecy Murders: police say it was random act of a madman

LAKE Annecy Murders: When Saad al-Hilli, Iqbal al-Hilli, Suhaila Al-Allaf, and cyclist Sylvain Mollier were murdered in the French Alps, we wondered why.

(Not: Still no photo of Sylvain Mollier. The Daily Mail asked “Does French cyclist hold the key to Alps massacre? ” It then published an “exclusive” photo of the wrong man.)

Eric Maillaud, the French prosecutor (see above), says he’s found no motive for the murders. It might have been a motiveless attack, the random act of a nutter. Says the expert:

“Without doubt we are looking for someone who has killed before, someone who puts no value on human life. We are not sure whether that means it’s a professional hit but if it was done on a contract it was very badly done.”

FAITH McGregor (woman) wanted her hair cut like a “businessman” at the Terminal Barber Shop. But Omar Mahrouk, co-owner of the barbers in Toronto, Canda, declined. He said that to cut Faith’s hair went against his Muslim faith. He would only cut hair of a female relative. Unless Ms McGregor was willing to offer her hand before her head, the deal was off.

Julie gets high in the dentist and makes the whole world laugh

GOING to the dentist is no fun. They drill your face, tell you off for the amount of sugar you spoon into your honking gob, and force you to read copies of Woman’s Own that are older than the internet.

However, sometimes, it is really really really fun. Especially when they jack you up on loads of drugs.

And to prove this, a video has gone viral of a great sport called Julie, who had her wisdom teeth removed. Filmed by her husband Cameron, Julie’s pie-eyed confusion is one of the most joyous things online right now (and not a stupid, cutesy animal in sight).

Sweden, where public transport is blighted by sex

SOME stereotypes are ace. While the English are known for complaining and being racist, the Swedish are simply known as being really, really sexy. Who wouldn’t want that as people’s default setting about you? And this, it seems, is a stereotype that has some legs.

Lovely, lovely legs.

Tom Watson, Simon Danczuk and Rob Wilson all want to be the fake sheikh

GOODBYE Cyril Smith. It’s not over yet, of course. Suspected of having been a nonce in life, the former Labour councillor and Liberal MP for Rochdale, not doing too badly in death. Yet. Unlike Jimmy Savile, Smith is still known as Sir Cyril, the Manchester Evening News using the title to tell readers that the plaque “honouring Sir Cyril Smith” has been removed from Rochdale Town Hall.

Council leader Colin Lambert said he and chief executive Jim Taylor thought it for the best. Says Lambert:

“We make no judgement on the situation with Cyril Smith, but the strength of public feeling is such that we have been alerted to a potential threat to the town hall.”

David Petraeus’ winter wife: it was just sex dummy

WHY are we so interested in David Petraeus’s resignation? Sex sells. But the talk of State security and the like is bunkum. This is all about a man who had extra-marital sex and got caught. He’s been married to the same woman for 37 years. As an active soldier, you wonder who many of those years he has spent with his wife.

This would be a better story were Petreaus a hypocrite. But we don’t know what his relationship with his wife is. Maybe their marriage is an open one, allowing him and her to shag insignificant others. She might even get off on it. The shock always seems to be that women, in this case the married Paula Broadwell, enjoy sex, that they misbehave with their genitals as much as men do. Look at it not as an affair. Look at it as foreplay. Petreaus fell on his sword to protect his wife’s kink. Who knows? Not us. It’s none of our business.

Mum wants oak trees banned from nut-free school

TO Ontario, where mum of two Donna Giustizia says oak trees by St. Stephen Catholic Elementary School are a danger to health. The acorns are potential killers. Says Giustizia chair of the school’s allergy committee, of the trees by the, apparently, nut-free school:

“A false sense of security is putting a sign on the door that says nut-free and there’s nuts all over the place. I’m not a crazy mom, I’m not asking for anything that’s not already there. The acorns are not only presenting a risk to the tree nut-allergic students but it is also becoming a great cause of anxiety amongst all students with nut allergies.”

Iran’s Neda Soltani blames lazy media for her plight

THE BBC has the story on Neda Soltani NOT Neda Agha-Soltan. In 2009, Neda Agha-Soltan was killed in Tehran. The Iranian protest movement was gathering pace. Shots were fired. An unarmed woman was killed. The horror was captured on video. That video was posted on YouTube. The insurrection had a martyr. And we had a face of Iranian brutality. But the face we got was not that of Neda Agha-Soltan. We got the face of Zahra Soltani, aka Neda Soltani. So keen were large sections of the media to broadcast a face that they ever changed Neda Soltani’s name to Neda Soltan to fit the narrative.

We made a list.
