Forget banning legal highs and just legalise drugs
LEGAL highs. There the drugs taken by people who don’t want to be criminals but want to get of their face. Now, a group called the Angelus Foundation says it’s researched the market in these drugs. Its data “suggests a third of 16 to 24 year olds are now likely to try them”.
Suggests. Likely.
The survey should feature other questions:
“If cannabis was not illegal would you be more or less likely to take a so-called legal high?”
“Is alcohol too expensive?”
“Are cigarettes gateway drugs?”
“Is alcohol a gateway drug?”
“Should all drugs be legalised?”
“Would you like to know a cheap way to get off your face for a few hours?”

Gary McKinnon gives a boost to compassionate Conservatives
GARY McKinnon, from Wood Green, north London, will not be heading to a concrete box in the United States. Home Secretary Teresa May has blocked his extradition. Gary McKinnon hacked into US military computers.
Mrs May told MPs:
”After careful consideration of all the relevant material I have concluded the Mr McKinnon extradition would give rise to such a risk of him ending his life that a decision to extradite would be incompatible with his human rights”.

The Lake Annecy Murders: Can we just blame the Jews and move on?
THE Lake Annecy Murders: A catch-up on the news of a massacre that has almost vanished from the news cycle.
Saad al-Hilli, 50, an engineer, his wife Iqbal, 47, his 74-year-old Swedish mother-in-law, Suhaila Al-Allaf and Frenchman Sylvain Mollier were murdered.
David Aaronovitch tells Times readers:
A persistent fall-back theory for almost any high-profile unexplained death is that “Mossad done it”. One author, Gordon Thomas, who had a best-seller with his imaginative Gideon’s Spies, has Mossad killing Robert Maxwell and playing a hand in the death of Princess Diana.
On Saturday, the Daily Mail published a long piece by David Jones under the headline: “Was Mossad behind the Alps murders?” Apparently Jones and “a team of Mail reporters” had “spent the past week probing the mystery” of the hitman-style killing of Saad al-Hilli, his family and a French cyclist.

Evangelos Venizelos and Greece’s Jewish and gay problem
IT always comes back to the Jews. Evangelos Venizelos, leader of Greece’s socialist Pasok party and former Greek finance minister, reportedly, says the names on the Lagarde list are “Jewish”.
The Lagarde list is what the Greek press have dubbed a list containing 1,991 names of wealthy, Swiss-bank-account-possessing Greeks. It’s named after French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund. Evangelos Venizelos says he was given the list.

Occupy London protest in photos – four women are chained to the St Paul’s pulpit
TO the Occupy movement demo on the steps of London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. They came to mark the first anniversary of protests by the Occupy movement against social and economic inequality, which led to a tented village pitched outside St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The highlight has been four women chaining themselves to the pulpit in London’s St Paul’s Cathedral. Can you think of a worse existence than being chained inside a draughty, echoey, spooky church? The police want to move them on. Why not leave them? St Paul’s could do with the congregants. Terry Waite approves this message:

The work of courtroom artist Elizabeth Cook (photos)
ELIZABETH Cook is courtroom artist. You know her work. It’s on the telly and in the papers. Cook is one of only three court artists working in the UK. She’s not allowed to draw in court. She produces her work from memory and notes. And she needs to work fast. We’ve compiled a gallery of it. Can you name the cases? And take note of the faces of those around the accused. The police can be judgemental:

North Korea: ‘Labor Hero Awarded to Lathe No. 26 at Pyongyang Textile Machine Factory’
TO North Korea, where The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has awarded a medal to a metal lathe once used by dearly departed Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il:
Title of Labor Hero Awarded to Lathe No. 26 at Pyongyang Textile Machine Factory
Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) — The DPRK awarded the title of labor hero of the DPRK and the gold medal (hammer and sickle) and the First Class of the Order of National Flag to the lathe No. 26 at the Pyongyang Textile Machine Factory.
Lathe No. 26 is the historic lathe which leader Kim Jong Il personally operated when he came to this factory for production practice during his days of study at Kim Il Sung University.
He set a noble example of equipment and technological management and raised the torch of the model machine movement.
That machine had operated in full capacity over last more than 50 years and was modernized as CNC lathe. The lathe has greatly contributed to the building of a thriving nation by processing a large number of parts needed for the production of textile machines and custom-built equipment for major projects.
A decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly on awarding the title of labor hero to it was issued on Thursday.
