He Pingping RIP: World’s Shortest Man In Pictures And Vital Statistics

HE Pingping RIP. You were the world’s shortest man. Who the world’s shortest man is now we do not know. As one life ends, another record-breaking career is born. He Pingping was just 21. Not inches. Years. Pingping was 74.6cm tall. Or 74.61cm, if you’re reading the Times.

Born in 1988 in Wulanchabu, China, Mr Pingping had a form of primordial dwarfism. Says Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records editor-in-chief, predictably:

“For such a small man, he made a huge impact around the world.”

Court Orders Paedophile Dad To Put Door With Lock On Children’s Bedroom

TWO girls, aged 8 and 10, have been ordered to spend the weekend with their father, a man convicted of downloading child porn and creating image son his PC.

But it will be ok, because Judge Robert Benjamin has commanded that the girls have a door on their bedroom they can lock.

In the Family Court’s Hobart branch, the judge rules that the girls “need some protection from (their father), particularly at night“.

And he’s not all that bad – the risk of sexual abuse was “diminished when they are awake and alert“.

Woman Dies Praying For Obama

ON this Sunday, some religious news, in keeping with our pledge:

Evelyn Boyd was on a mission to pray — for her husband, her church, her city, the nation and the president.

So on Feb. 7, she locked herself in a bedroom to pray and fast. She brought water and prayer requests and told her husband not to bother her.

“This is what I have to do,” she told him.

Go on:

For more than three weeks, Boyd, 55, didn’t emerge. Her family could have come to her aid if she needed help, but her husband wanted to respect her wish to be alone. He figured she’d be okay, just like the last four times she fasted.

But on the 26th day, family members forced the door open. They found her dead.

In Pictures: Kingdom’s Thames Tunnel Opens And Then Closes For Good

THE Thames Tunnel, the brainchild of engineering geniuses Marc and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was open to the public for the just two days first time in 145 years today. Opened in 1852, the tunnel gripped the nation’s imagination: nothing had been seen like it before and it paved the way for the present day Tube system. Lying deep beneath the River Thames, it is one of the Brunels’ greatest engineering triumphs – and the only project they worked on together. The tunnel is 1,300ft long and, by the end of the first week of opening, more than half the population of London had paid to walk “the shining avenue of light to Wapping“. There is a sad twist to the tale, however. The East London tube line is being opened later this year and will be going through the tunnel. That means, at the end of the two days, the tunnel will be closed – forever.

75 Starlings Commit Suicide In Somerset

IN Croxley, Somerset, 75 starlings have fallen from the sky. Dead. The birds are on a driveway.

The RSPCA animal charity is “mystified”.

And the BBC delivers one of the greatest lines ever recorded in the media. We give you:

Animal welfare officer Alison Sparkes, who was called by police, said: “It was a remarkable sight, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

There is no evidence the birds were ill or poisoned before they hit the ground.

How do you give medical to a wild bird in flight? And can you tell a starling’s mental well-being by sight alone? Answers on a feather to the usual address…

Ireland’s First Leprachaun Museum In Pictures

IRELAND opened its first Leprechaun Museum in central Dublin. The word “first” is suggestive of more museums to the little people. But little people are not to be trusted. Randy Newman taught us that. As for the crock of gold. Well, there a huge crock of something. This is the world’s foremost museum to nothing. It’s not a museum – it’s a theme park without any of the rides or the fun. There are, however, big pieces furniture – for giants to sit on… or visting Americans…

Swiss Ban Suicide Clinics For Pets

IN SWITZERLAND, voters have rejected lawyers for dogs, what might be called postman chasers.

Around 70% of Swiss broke up the apres-skiing, institutionalised racism and bansturbation by voting against plans for state-funded lawyers to represent animals in court. The other 30% are believed to be lawyers and chimpanzees in hats and overcoats.

The system is already in place in Zurich. Injured and abused animal head to Zurich, where they are either put down – it being what they want – or launch a class action law suit.

Prius Kills Baby: Son Dies As Parents Raise Virtual Solution

KIM Yoo-chul, 41 and Choi Mi-sun, 25 are accused of allowing their daughter to die while they raised a vitual baby called Anima in a computer game called…Prius. The child died from prolonged malnutrition.

“The couple seemed to have lost their will to live a normal life because they didn’t have jobs and gave birth to a premature baby,” police officer Chung Jin-Won said.

“They indulged themselves in the online game of raising a virtual character so as to escape from reality, which led to the death of their real baby.”

It’s a horrible story. But the name of the game – Prius – leaves room for an aside. Prius is the smug-mobile driven by wealthy greenies who don’t brake for humans. When we first heard that the brakes on a Prius might fail we imagined it was a cunning plot for hardcore greens to rid the world of the human virus, or cyclists, as we macho drivers call them.

Man Accused Of Owning Image Of Human Shagging A Squid

AT Swansea Magistrates Court, Andrew Charles Dymond, 46, is answering the charged with possessing an “extreme pornographic” image of someone having sex with what appears to be a squid. A dead one. (Does that make it better or worse?)

And let us precise, the image is of a human…

“…performing an act of intercourse with a dead animal, namely an octopus/squid, which was grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character”.

What is it squid or octopus? Or is one marine cephalopods very much like another when it is being shagged to death?

IN San Antonio, you are invited to join ‘Smut for Smut’, a campaign sponsored by the student group, Atheist Agenda and exchange your Bibles for some decent porn. It’s a Bible amnesty.

Says group member Carlos Morales (oh, nominative determinism):

“We are comparing their religious text to pornography…”

There aren’t all that many photos in the Bible. But thanks to some terrific artists there are lots of impressions of naked breasts, a memorable rendition of David’s penis and Eve clad in a fig leaf and cheeky grin.
