Dim The Lights In Australia’s Pastel Prisons

IN Australia, the men are not so tough, even the toughs:

POLICE have been told to show more respect to their prisoners: dim the lights at night, don’t slam cell doors and serve tea, coffee or milk at least three times a day.

New “soft cell” human rights guidelines from Victoria’s Office of Police Integrity say cell blocks should be calm and relaxing, with light-shaded wall colours.

And when you’ve got ’em relaxed, do you kick the suspects in?

Top Ten Items Left Behind On British Trains

WHAT did you lose on a CrossCountry train in 2008, other than your mind and a will to live?

Others left some more imaginative items:

A cat called Holly. (Back with owner)

£30,000 of used banknotes in a green holdall. (Unclaimed)

Says Andy Cooper, managing director at CrossCountry:

“People leave all sorts of items on trains and this year we have found some very unusual ones, including baby buggies, shoes, designer handbags, cricket bats and even a wedding dress.

“We always advise passengers to check their seats and the areas around them when leaving a train, especially at busy times, to ensure that they have all their belongings with them.”

And also advise them to pay up or else; not to grumble, or else; and to do as they are told, or else.

Vince Marinello Should Have Typed His List

IN the US a handwriting expert has matched Vince Marinello’s handwriting to a checklist. He is accused of killing his wife.

An expert witness delivered more damaging evidence against New Orleans broadcaster Vince Marinello Saturday.

Forensic expert Robert Foley told jurors that handwriting on an apparent checklist found in Marinello’s trailer matched other samples of the 71-year-old murder suspect’s handwriting.

Police say Marinello made a list of things to do related to his wife’s murder. They say the checklist included items like “throw gun in river.”

As J-Walk notes:

“That’s why you should always do your lists in Excel.”

True Colours Of The Solar Corona, By Miloslav Druckmüller

A TOTAL eclipse. What do you see? Well, best not to look, you may go blind. But what is the color of the solar corona?

The majority of people perceive the corona during eclipse as white or slightly greenish-white. However bluish-white, yellowish-white or reddish-white are often reported too. The problem is in the color perception by human vision which is dependent on the definition (calibration) of white color. The less the color differs from white i.e. the less is the color saturated the more critical is the precision of white color calibration. If we use the natural definition that photospheric light is white, we may distinguish very small but still well detectable differences of solar corona coloring. Suppressing the white color component i.e. increasing of color saturation enables detailed study of the color variation throughout the inner corona.

Humans don’t see all the colours. Imagine if you could?
