Woman mistakes draught excluder for snake – police issue warning
WE are in the midst of a post- Animal Magic crisis. A woman from Kingswells, near Aberdeen, has called the Scottish SPCA complaining about the 5ft snake in her loft. It wasn’t a snake. It was a draught excluder.
Secondly, two police officers from Nottinghamshire spotted a King Charles Spaniel in the back of a car and fearing it was about to overheat broke the window and saved the day. Only it was a toy dog.
Nottinghamshire Police said:
“This is a perfect example of why drivers need to think about what they leave on view in their car, both in terms of other people’s perception of the objects and in a bid to deter opportunist thieves.”

Hero crow saves baby pigeon for later
NEWS that a crow (group name: murder) has saved the life of baby pigeon is a Daily Mirror scoop. Ben Griffiths says the “have-a-crow hero” “rescued” the baby pigeon by dragging it out of the path of on-rushing vehicles.
Chuka Okey saw the happening on a street in London:
“It just goes to show that acts of kindness are not just reserved to humans. I have no doubt that the pigeon’s days would have been numbered had the crow not stepped in.”
It’s always odd when human sensibilities and behaviour are fostered upon animals. Humans have no more idea what it’s like to be crow than they do a snooker ball. We guess – and we always make them like us.

Weymouth lamposts gets shades – bollards get toilet roll covers
THERE’S a pink lampshade dangling from a street light along Weymouth’s Olympics-ready seafront at Greenhill. The lamp was too bright – too “agressive” – so it’s been dimmed with a shade.
A notice by the lampshade states:
“Do not remove the lampshade.”
Problems began when the Victorian lighting columns from the Esplanade were relocated to Greenhill as part of the seafront regeneration scheme. Nothing points to a rosy-fingered dawn like a Victorian lamppost.
