Indian TV broadcasts live sexual assault as entertainment news
TO Guwahati, north-east India, where TV journalists for the NewsLive channel are filming a live sexual assault. In filming the attack, the TV crew have enabled men to be captured on camera and arrested. But should they have stepped in to stop it?
India’s home minister, P Chidambaram, says: “[The] molestation of women anywhere in India is condemnable.”
The chief minister of Assam state, Tarun Gogoi, adds: “No one has the right to molest anyone. I have asked the police to keep a vigil on the anti-social elements.”

Dutch TV show makes Angela Merkel look like Hitler
IT’S a good job Europe is united and looking to a rosy-fingered daw, otherwise you might suppose the sight to German chancellor Angela Merkel sporting a moustache on Holland’s Nos television’s six o’clock news made her look like Hitler.
The programme assures us that the matter was a pure accident caused by graphics causing a black line to overlap part of Merkel’s top lip.
In any case, it suits her. The moustache invests her with power…
‘It was an unfortunate coincidence,’ editor in chief Marcel Gelauff said after the show.

Dawson spares a few thought on Katie Holmes’ and Pacey’s wedding (a meme is born)
DID Katie Holmes leave Tom Cruise over Dawson’s Creek? Was Cruise so unnerved that Joey Potter (Holmes) was set to finally marry Pacey in a Creek special and live forever a magical halcyon summer in Capeside? Was Tom trying to save us from Dawson, the idealistic sensitive bore who gave us heamorrhoids as we waited for him to finish ordering lunch or giving full throat to a soliloquy on his shoelaces or ears. (Dawson also gave us Twilight, which is Dawson’s Creek with pointy teeth and fur.)
Odd that Holmes, who rose to fame playing one of a group of teen who loved shooting to breeze by analysing themselves, whould marry a Scientologist for the free audit. Maybe she misread the marriage contract as “FREE AUDI!”

This IT Crowd pilot for US telly is eerily awful
FANS of the IT Crowd, the British sitcom will enjoy this US pilot for NBC. Whereas the IT crowd was funny, the actors growing into the characters until the jokes seemed easy, the US version, were it not for the canned laughter, could pass for an episode of the Twilight Zone. The language is laced with the threat of an unspoken menace, as if the humans aren’t really human at all.
